Little bird crochet ornaments

I thought I'd try and post some various projects I've done over the years to get these boards moving. Please join in and post some of your own.

Here's a very simple little crochet project.

I came back from a hike with a pine cone I found along the way. It happened to be this type-

...

from the Digger Pine or Gray Pine.

When one of the scales broke off I noticed that it just naturally resembled a little bird. So, I crocheted some little nests to make ornaments that can just rest on the branches on the Christmas tree.

...

...

If you live in California you may find Digger pine cones in inland areas, but I did find this online source for them-

Once you brake of the scales you may need to use some turpentine to wash off any sap on them. I then sprayed mine with a little gloss coating to help bring out the color.

For the nests I just crocheted a simple disk to the right size and then skipped stitches on the last round to make it draw inwards a little to make the bowl shape.

More info on crocheting a basic bowl here-
